- If you’re looking forward to Far Cry 6, you may be interested in hearing this newest news.
- The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles will not support the ray-tracing function at all.
- Instead, only PC players will be able to experience this visual feast, much to the dismay of console owners.
- Ubisoft took this choice in order to offer as many frames per second as feasible at 4K quality.
If you’re a dedicated gamer, you’re probably aware that ray tracing is a graphics rendering method that simulates light rays bouncing around a scene to improve lighting and shadow effects in 3D applications.
For creating ray-traced pictures, a variety of free and commercial tools is available. If you were hoping to see this feature in Ubisoft’s next game, you’ll be disappointed.
The silver lining, if you can call it that, is that this much-desired feature will be included in Far Cry 6, but only for PC players.
The primary emphasis is on a 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.
As previously stated, ray-tracing will not be supported in Far Cry 6 on the PS5 or Xbox One X, and will only be available on PCs.
This popular visual element was introduced in Watch Dogs Legion, however it was not included in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
However, it will be supported on the PC version, since Ubisoft chose to concentrate on 60 FPS instead of a 30 FPS solution for ray-tracing in Far Cry 6.
When asked about the reports, Ubisoft 3D Team Lead Programmer Stephanie Brenham responded:
Ray tracing is only available on PCs. Our goal on console has been to take use of new hardware capabilities, such as optimizing performance for 4K and 60 FPS, while also ensuring that new game features, such as our dynamic weather system, are supported across all platforms.
However, both next-generation consoles and PCs have a few similar advantages. Better LODs, draw distances, water modeling, and HD textures are among them.
4K 60 FPS is also available on newer platforms. XDR Reflections & Shadows, Fidelity FX (FSR, CAS), unlocked FPS, ultrawide screen, and customizable FOV are all available on the PC.
If we were to highlight any other significant changes made to this fantastic game, we could note the addition of GPU culling, which helps to decrease CPU burden and make better use of hardware resources.
Ubisoft has implemented GPU instancing to assist handle the lush tropical woods by reducing draw overhead for dense biomes. Another new feature is DCC support, which takes use of the color similarities seen in urban environments.
Even without ray tracing, we’re certain that anybody who prefers console gaming will appreciate all Far Cry 6 has to offer.
Have you seen how games look and function on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, to be honest? It will undoubtedly be a memorable experience.
Remember that Far Cry 6 will be released for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC on October 7, 2021.
